Your guide to setting up your new medical fridge

Welcome to CoolMed! We’re delighted that you’ve chosen us for your medical refrigeration needs. We know how important it is to maintain the correct temperatures for your medical supplies. That’s why we take pride in delivering high-quality, pre-tested pharmacy fridges straight to your door. But before you start stocking it with vaccines or medications, let’s walk you through the simple setup process to ensure your new fridge is operating at peak performance.

1. Inspection upon arrival

Carefully unpack your fridge and check the power cable and outlet are in good condition and look for any cosmetic defects or marks. Despite our warehouse team’s meticulous inspection of every product before dispatch, unforeseen damage could still happen during delivery.

2. Positioning and settling

Find the right place

Place your refrigerator in its allotted location. Keep in mind that for sufficient airflow, leave at least 2-3 inches of space clear around the unit.

Let it rest

Allow the fridge to settle for 2-3 hours to allow the gases to settle and the cooling system to perform as efficiently as possible.

3. Power up

Use the included 3-pin plug to connect your fridge to the mains. The unit should power on and display the current temperature. Look for a blue light on the controller or a blue dot below the temperature display. This indicates that the compressor has kicked in, the fans have started, and the cooling cycle has begun.

4. Additional checks

Checking the seal

Inspect the fridge door seal to ensure it fits snugly against the frame. A reliable seal is essential for maintaining stable cold temperatures.

Checking the light switch

Locate the small black switch at the top of the fridge. This is solely for the interior light. The fridge itself is automatically powered on when plugged in.

5. Reaching optimal temperature

1.     It typically takes an hour for the fridge to reach its desired temperature, although this can vary depending on factors like starting temperature and ambient conditions. Freezers might require slightly longer.

2.   All pharmacy fridges come factory set at 5°C, no need to change the set temperature of the fridge. When it cools to around this temperature, press and hold the Hi/Lo button for 10 seconds until you hear a beep. This clears the highest and lowest recorded temperatures, ensuring the displayed data is accurate and up-to-date.

3.     Don’t be alarmed if the fridge beeps while cooling down. This is a safety feature that alerts you when the temperature falls outside the cold-chain range. When it reaches the specified temperature range of 2-8°C, the alarm will stop.

Congratulations! Your CoolMed pharmacy fridge is now ready to store your medications safely and effectively.
